The U.S. Army designates August as Antiterrorism Awareness Month to raise awareness of the threat of terrorism worldwide and also encourage civilians to notice, assess, understand, and report potential threats. Awareness and vigilance are the strongest defense against terrorist activity. In April 2010, the U.S. Army created the iWATCH Army program to heighten awareness of possible terrorism to aid the Army community and, ultimately, the general public. iWATCH's theme "if you see something, say something" is emphasized in August, and everyone is encouraged to participate.
