Project Spotlight: Irwin Street Repairs to Eight Intersections, Fort Huachuca, Arizona
March 27, 2017
Vernadero Group Inc. recently managed a team that repaired eight intersections crossing Irwin Street on Fort Huachuca because the intersections were considered to be unsafe due to the poor quality of the pavement and lack of proper connection to adjacent multiuse paths and sidewalks. Altogether, we removed or replaced 18,000 square feet of asphalt. Our construction team regraded and recompacted the existing base course and laid down additional base course as needed. We extended asphalt multiuse paths, extended concrete sidewalks, and provided Americans with Disabilities Act ramps at the end of each sidewalk. We also installed thermoplastic crosswalk striping. Vernadero also provided a traffic control plan and traffic controls to ensure pedestrian and vehicle safety. Care was taken to ensure that employees working in nearby buildings could access their workplaces at all times.
